  • KritzKast #352: No Mo Froyo

Last week Agro took the huge Journey, traveling through dense jungle and endless deserts to visit Tempest. So it seemed only logical to do an episode with the 2 in the same room (and Doug locked up in the next basement).

    T&A

While here we talk about TF2 at Dreamhack, The steam Authenticator hack and the promotional Sale on the market because of it. But all importantly we chat about Froyotech as we know it dispanding. Over in the world of overwatch, we look at the stats gathered and revealed from the stress test weekend beta. Plus a graphics comparison so you can see how it will run on your PC.

The TF2 Mix-up website was launched this week. Featuring Robin walker, Notch, Freddie Wong, Nathan Purkeypile (Bethesda), Yogscast, Brian Brushwood, Veronica Belmont, CaptainSparklez and so many others. There are more of our gaming heroes on the match roster than Gabe Newell could recruit in a week of headhunting, probably. Despite this there’s still three slots left, to be filled by you. We tell you how on this week’s show.

TF2’s Beta gets an update. In the long tradition of beta updates this basically means a bunch of fresh new nurfs for you to cope with. The Enforcer is slower to fire and trading now impossible.

Back in the real game, Sniper gets a leather backpack, the Cozy Camper, complete with dangling piss jar and koala. Solider’s buff/rage meters are fixed and Pyro’s Phlogistinator gets a couple of nerfs. Whom ever guessed “QR code” as the language for “Updating localization files”, take a drink.

Steam Powered User Forums ( or SPUF for short) finally have their own subsection just for the competitive players. This was largely the result of Ashkan, our player of the week, buiding a solid presentation to put before the Valve lot. Well done mate, though Extine pushing the point home can’t have harmed either.

As for the quickies, we make a good shot at them being the longies:

    • Ruskeydoo reports on a worrying trend of item makers’ accounts being hacked to get at their self-made hats
    • Our Steam friend Lucky Luke shows us how your friends list now has a search bar
    • Tempest talks to mnemosynaut about his recent contributions to the game
    • Collection packs are added to Steam Workshop
    • rubixRandomHero creates some cute knitted TF2 friends
  • 158 Lo-Fi World Tour

Well this was a week. We thought we’d seen it all, but we are always surprised by some of the things that manage to find their way onto the show. This week the big thing is simply a rumor. We could be talking about something that will never happen. But when that this is a steam console, its worth talking about. Plus with Valves track record, it would not be a huge leap of the imagination that this information was leaked out.

If we can drag you back to reality for just a moment. Valve gave us a couple of things to talk about this week. The patch was all about the Teufort Tooth kicker. The boots that make you look more handsome that a cowboy wrestling a pig. Not only that, but valve blogged about a great web comic that you all need to read….yes even you Timmy.

Maybe the biggest news is that the Kritzkast Lo-Fi Offclass Cup is going to be held in both South Afica and Asia. We always love it when different groups want to play with our ideas and make them their own. We love it even more when small or starting groups of gamers use it as a way to increase the number of people playing team fortress. With stunning posters from both 16bittf and Sandvichfort, we are hoping that people will have as much fun with the cups as we do watching them.

Speaking of watching things, This week could almost be called the video of awesome videos. There were 3 wanted to talk about on the show this week. One of them taught you how to use the TF2 wiki. Yes we know. you might already know how to use it. but please check it out, its fantastic. The next is from Maxofs2d and is a trailer for his highly anticipated Earthbound Fortress 2 series. I hope it’s as good as the trailer makes it look. The last one is really a thank you from last week’s guest Dusty Old Roses. Want to see what we are like in public, this gives you a fairly good idea.

This is the week that the unthinkable happened. Steam was compromised. The question rises, our are personal details still safe? We’ve looked into the details of the hack, How, when and why, to bring you as much information about it as we can. We’ll try our best to make you feel safe, but alas, only valve can be the ones to rest our minds fully. For more information please visit this thread.

Luckily, the hack isn’t the only piece of news this week, or we would be crying all through the show. TF2 also got 3 new promo items directly from Saints row the third. Not to mention a few changes to make thing run smoother.

Speaking of running smoother, the Beta also got a good fix this week. bringing it up to date with recently changes to the main game and also testing out new code that should make the game run smoother on older machines.

But its not just valve that have been making heads lines this week. ETF2L started its highlander league and agro got to have a quick shoutcast. We also followed eXtine into a comic book store as he picked up the copy of “The Scarface” and had it signed by valve employees

Plus this week was the week that teamfortress.tv launched, a new site showcasing some of the best live streams of Pro TF2 players…….and 1 fascinating TF2 podkast.

Lastly, we couldn’t let the launch of Skyrim pass without mentioning this graphics comparison sent to us from a fan.
